Sh. Jayanti Prasad

Whole Time Member, IBBI

Shri Jayanti Prasad is a Whole‑Time Member of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), where he plays a key role in the regulation and oversight of India’s insolvency and bankruptcy framework under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code, 2016. At IBBI, he contributes significantly to policy formulation, regulatory adjudication and governance of insolvency professionals, insolvency professional agencies and related entities.

Shri Prasad assumed charge as a Whole‑Time Member of IBBI on 5 July 2022, following a distinguished career spanning over three decades in the Indian civil services, primarily in the Indian Audit & Accounts Service (IA&AS). His extensive experience encompasses national and international assignments in audit, finance, regulation, human resources, administration and quasi-judicial functions.

Before joining IBBI, Shri Prasad served as Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General with responsibilities for Human Resources and International Relations. He also held senior leadership positions within the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and at the United Nations, where he served as Chief Auditor across diverse global postings including Geneva, New York, Somalia, Kenya, Angola and Iraq. In that role, his work earned recognition for substantial impact and cost savings, notably under the UN’s Oil for Food Programme.

Shri Prasad holds a Master of Science in Physics from the University of Lucknow, where he was awarded gold medals for academic excellence at both graduate and postgraduate levels. He is also a member of the Institute of Public Auditors of India.

At IBBI, Shri Prasad contributes to regulatory and adjudicatory processes, including serving on disciplinary committees constituted under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code and on technical committees. He regularly presides over show‑cause notices and compliance matters involving insolvency professionals, shaping enforcement standards in the insolvency ecosystem.

In addition to his regulatory role, Shri Prasad participates in training programmes and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at enhancing the understanding of insolvency law and practice among government officers, insolvency professionals, and other stakeholders. His broad governance and institutional experience underpin his leadership in advancing the effectiveness and integrity of India’s insolvency regime.
